Derek Lorbiecki called the meeting to order at 10:00am


  1. Opening and Introduction of the Agenda



Derek Lorbiecki welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced the agenda for the morning.

  1. Membership Information



Alison Wieckowicz briefly identified the benefits of membership.

    • Membership fee is used for refreshments at the meetings.
    • Completing the registration card and mailing it to HCGUG with your membership Fee.
    • Fill out a membership card and bring it to a meeting with your fee to give to a board member.
    • Please consider nominating yourself or others for 2010 board positions
    • There are currently 39 paid members for the 2009 year

Mike Steuernagel had prior obligations and couldn’t make it to this meeting. 

  1. A Discussion on the Newly Established Henn. Co. Technical Advisory Committee



Jay Meehl gave a presentation on the newly formed Hennepin County GIS Technical Advisory Commity (GTAG).
Presentation Notes:

    • The objective is for the committee to make recommendations on policies, best practices, etc to the county board for use as a GIS decision support structure.
    • Members of eGTAG will create a network of technology experts, which will promote and strengthen GIS technology countywide through inter-departmental communication, collaboration, cooperation, and joint research. 
    • GTAG is currently made up of 8 power users from various departments in the county.

  1. MnGeo



Mike Dolbow, the GIS Coordinator for the MN Dept. of Ag, accepted an invitation from Rebecca Foster to come and speak at the HCGUG meeting about the newly restructured geospatial information office,
located within the Department of Administration at the state known as MNGEO.  Having chaired the committee that created MNGEO Mike was able to discuss how organizational changes will affect GIS practitioners at the local level.

Presentation Notes:

 

    • The organization is advised by advisory councils representing stakeholders within state government and around the state.
    • MnGeo coordinates the development, implementation, support and use of geospatial technology.
    • Funding for MnGeo operations and staff comes from state budgets, but consulting projects and services offered may be funded through a cost-recovery process.
    • The term for committee member on who steer the work of the MNGEO organization is 2 years.
    • The first MNGEO committee meeting will be held in November of 2009.

  1. County Data Updates (Bob Moulder - Hennepin County)


The aerial photo from the April 2009 flight was processed by Pinnacle Corporation out of Indiana and they delivered the SIDs and .tifs last Friday.  There are some georeferencing QAQC concerns that may need to be addressed so it might take a 2- 4 weeks to get the aerial photos delivered to the cities.  There is also a new license agreement in the works by the county attorney’s office that will allow cities who purchase the photos to redistribute it.
