| Here are some comments by other Hennepin County GIS users: | |
| The current parcel data set that gets delivered to a licensed user is actually a "Tax" parcel dataset. The PID, the index that identifies that parcel, is actually being used as a TaxID, not a ParcelID.
This issue becomes very apparent on CICS properties.
It would be nice to begin discussions on Parcel dataset rather than a Tax Parcel dataset. Tax data is an attribute of the parcel. It should NOT define the parcel.
I realize this is not pratical or easy to change at the county level. However, with the onset of a new GIS Coordinator in HennCo and the change of GIS systems, now is the time to at least discuss the system issues that would or would not allow this process to take place.

| Updates from Hennepin County are ok, but Lets hear from others in the HCGUG meetings on what they are doing with GIS and making use of available data, technical issues they are having with the software and/or data available. THis is the members user group.

| On the topic of SIGs, I think we should start a SIG dedicated to web based application development. This would allow application developers to come together and discuss current initiatives within their sectors (local, county, regional & state). We would be able to discuss, as a group, common problems and solutions that are current affecting GIS application development. The group would focus on multi-level solutions using the latest in client and server-side technology. ~ Zachary Christoff, Hennepin County GIS | |
